Hogs and Admirals Battle For 8th Place In The West

RockfordIceHogs_logo2The Rockford IceHogs are coming into Milwaukee on a tear, defeating the Chicago Wolves 7-1 last night in the home finale in Rockford. Ben Smith and Brandon Pirri both had big nights. Smith recorded a hat trick, while Pirri recorded a six point night. Rockford comes into Milwaukee tied with the Admirals for 8th place in the conference with 81 points two clear of Chicago.

This has been a tightly contest series thus far going into the last game of the season series, Rockford is 6-4-1, while Milwaukee is 5-5-1. Four of the top five Nashville_Predators_logoscorers for Milwaukee have all been called up to the big team in Nashville. Michael Latta (NSH) and Victor Bartley (NSH) lead the team with six points, while Jusso Pusstinen Taylor Beck (NSH) have five points a piece, with Gabriel Borque (NSH) rounding out the top five with four points.

Rockford has out scored the Admirals 30-27 in 11 games. The IceHogs are lead by defensemen Adam Clendening who has 11 points with no goals and 11 assists. Rounding out the top five is Martin St.Pierre (9), Brandon Pirri (8), Ben Smith (5) and Brandon Saad (5). Rostislav Olesz has been the Hogs hottest player coming into tonight’s game with seven goals, eight assists and is a +3 in 11 games this season.

Keys to the game:

Rockford: The Rockford IceHogs have an uphill climb if they want to make the playoffs. Rockford only has two more games after tonight, both on the road against the San Antonio Rampage and the Western Conf. leading Texas Stars. The Hogs need to take advantage of the last 6 possible points available starting tonight, with Chicago and Milwaukee having four more games to play in the season. Tonight Rockford needs to take advantage on the PP. Rockford is ranked 3rd in the power play with 20.7%, while the Admirals are ranked 20th in the PK with 82.5%, giving up 48 PP goals in 71 games. The Key to the PP is creating space and movement inside the offensive zone, and not being stagnant.

Milwaukee: Milwaukee is coming into tonight’s game strong, having defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins last night in GR 4-1. Last night  Brad Winchester, Mattias Ekholm, Kevin Henderson and Zach Hamill all scored for the Ads. Tonight Milwaukee needs a strong performance out of Jeremy Smith who will probably get the start tonight as he is 5-1-0 with a 2.11 GAA and a 93% against Rockford.
